Satellite TV and Parental Controls

If yours is one of the fortunate families that subscribe to satellite TV, then you already know that life is just a little bit better with this enjoyable addition to your entertainment ensemble.

There is a combination of things, however, that can put a damper on your idyllic satellite TV setting: summer, teenagers, and your full-time jobs. In the summer the teenagers, who are too old to be baby-sat, are out of school. The parents, having full-time jobs, must leave these teenagers at home during the day. Though you may leave them with strict warnings about what satellite TV channels they can or cannot watch, teenagers, believe it or not, have been known to temporarily forget about the consequences and succumb to peer pressure and/or curiosity.

Fear not! There is this wonderful thing called “parental controls” that can stop even the most determined teenagers in their tracks. Working with satellite TV’s V-Chip technology, this feature allows you to block access to certain programs and create your own private password so that only you can unblock them. This can all be done using your satellite TV remote control. Pick the channels that you don’t want your little angels to watch, use the “channel lock” feature on your remote and block to your heart’s content!

The fun part is when you leave your teenagers in the morning with strict instructions to not watch certain channels while you’re at work, and then peek through the window as they race to the remote as soon as they think you’re gone. The looks on their faces as they encounter block after block are just too precious.

Parenthood can be fun sometimes.

Dish TV Bandwidth to Provide HDTV

DISH NETWORK continues to hold its own against its closest competitor from the time this satellite TV provider was established in 1995 as a subsidiary of the EchoStar Communications, Corporation. EchoStar continues to extend its services by technology development that includes portable devices aiming to serve the traveling public and high-definition products.

Satellite TV customers get their programming through a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) provider, such as DISH NETWORK. A DBS provider’s basic goal is to provide a big number of channels to your television that more or less approximates that which is provided by its competitor, cable TV. DISH NETWORK, along with the other DBS providers has managed to surpass that goal. Aside from offering hundreds of channels to watch, customers have the freedom to choose which company they would want to subscribe with and what package of channels to buy.

One advantage of DISH NETWORK is the big number of satellite bandwidth allocations they have which may make possible the eventual broadcast of at least 500 channels; which translates to endless possibilities when it comes to entertainment and information. As it offers the lowest all-digital TV price in the US and the most number of international channels, DISH NETWORK continues to offer new services such as High Definition TV to give the television viewers an even wider programming choice.

The DISH ViP 622 Mpeg-4 HD DVR is the first receiver to offer DVR and HD capabilities along with a multi-room function in an mpeg-4 format in the industry. The DISH ViP 211 HD is the single tuner mpeg-4 high definition satellite receiver that can also display both standard-definition (SD) and high definition (HD) programming. It has access to all DISH NETWORK SD and HD channels. It also includes an enhanced HD Adopter for current and future DISH HD programming. It further provides seamless channel selection between off-air analog/off-air broadcasts and the network’s SD and HD satellite TV programming.

Other interesting features include the parental control locks, program information, theme lists, favorite lists, browse, one-touch channel return, closed-caption support, alternate audio, on-screen DISH CD song titling, caller ID capability and DISH Home Interactive TV.

How Satellite TV Brings Programs to Your Home

Satellite TV has been around for years, but many people do not understand how all the components work together to broadcast the signal through their television sets. It might be a little more complicated than you thought. There are programming sources, satellites, DBS broadcasting centers, satellite dishes, and the receiver in your home.

The programming source is a means for directing programming to broadcast. The satellite TV provider pays programmers to broadcast their programs via satellite. This includes companies like HBO, Cinemax and others. In this sense the satellite TV provider is connecting the different companies’ programs with the end consumer. Once the programming source receives the programs, they are sent to a broadcast center.

The broadcast center is where all the programs come together. At the center, all programming signals are received and then sent to a satellite. The satellite receives the programming sent by the broadcast center.

Once the satellite receives the signals from the broadcast center they are beamed back down to earth. When the satellite sends the signals back to earth they are ready to be picked up by the consumer’s satellite dish. After the dish receives the signal, it then transmits the signal to the receiver in your home. Finally, the receiver processes the signal from the satellite dish and allows it to be displayed on your television screen.

At the point the programming gets to you, you have no idea how many times the signal has been beamed from earth to space and back again, but rather enjoy watching your favorite program. Now, when you turn on your TV, you can better appreciate the technology that allows you to watch it.
